Understanding Fieldprint Analysis Results

Once you’ve entered all required data and completed the Fieldprint Analysis, your results are displayed through a set of sustainability indicators and a visual summary called the Fieldprint Spidergram.

These results provide a comprehensive look at your field’s environmental performance and help identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Spidergram Overview

The Fieldprint Spidergram offers a quick visual comparison of your field’s sustainability performance across eight key metrics.

  • Your score is shown in blue
  • Project (when available), State and national benchmarks are also included for comparison
  • Smaller shape = Better sustainability performance
    • A smaller “footprint” on the Spidergram indicates less resource use or environmental impact across the metrics.

The Eight Sustainability Indicators

Your Fieldprint results include the following indicators:

MetricWhat It Shows
BiodiversityHabitat Potential Index (HPI) – estimates a field’s potential to support wildlife habitat
Energy UseBTUs per bushel – energy used to produce the crop
Greenhouse GasPounds of CO₂ equivalent per bushel – emissions from field practices
Irrigation Water UseAcre-inches per bushel – volume of irrigation water used
Land UseAcres per bushel – land required for each unit of crop produced
Soil CarbonPounds of CO₂ sequestered or lost – estimates change in soil organic carbon
Soil ConservationTons of soil lost per acre per year – based on erosion estimates
Water Quality0–4 STEP score – risk of nutrient and sediment loss to water systems

Exploring Each Indicator

In the Platform you can click on any of the eight cards to explore:

  • Your Score
  • How to Improve Your Score
  • Why This Metric Matters for sustainability
  • About the Metric – how the score is calculated, including models and data sources used

This information helps you understand the science behind the metric and make informed decisions about improving your field’s sustainability.

Exporting Your Results
